Two members of The Gregory School's Race Engineering Club returned successful and happy from Colorado on September 15, having competed in the "24 Hours of Lemons" race at the High Plains Raceway among the only 73% of cars to finish the race!

24 Hours of Lemons is an endurance car racing series on dedicated road courses for $500 cars, which are cars bought and track-prepped for $500 or less (not including safety equipment, brakes, and wheels/tires).
The team covered 415 miles with a top speed of 101 mph.
TGS's Race Engineering Club started work last spring on restoring a Mazda RX-8 car purchased by one of our families. Students worked on the car over the summer, including modifying the interior, retrofitting the electrical, engine, exhaust & fuel systems, and ensuring it met all the safety standards required for all cars registering for the race—checking/repairing any leaks, installing a roll cage and more.
Students contributing to these extensive efforts include Simon Alter '27, Christian Darcangelo '28, Yael Esquer '27, Liam Flaherty '29, Kian McCandless '27, Preston Miller '26, Evan Pozez '29, and Finley Richardson '26.
While the students didn't drive the car in the race—that task was left to two parents, an uncle and a cousin—Simon and Kian did serve on the crew. Congratulations to Team Mazderati (car #22)!
