Monday, October 12th: Pima Air and Space Museum. In their “Space Crews,” students will tour the museum, engage in a scavenger hunt, and experience all things aeronautical. We will eat lunch at the museum, then return to school to spend the afternoon creating space rockets.
Tuesday, October 13th: Biosphere 2. “Space Crews” will take a tour, observing all necessary requirements for making a closed livable system. We will eat packed lunches at the Biosphere and return to school where crews will design their own Mars colonies.
Wednesday, October 14th: Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium at the University of Arizona. We will attend a planetarium show about travel to Mars, explore the many buildings on campus connected to space and Mars research, and have lunch at the U of A. We will return to school mid-day and spend the afternoon creating Mars rovers.
Thursday, October 15th: RoadHouse Cinemas to view Wall-E. This movie connects all of the learning we’ve done about life beyond Earth. We will return to campus for a pizza lunch. The afternoon will be filled with culminating activities including final team challenges, final jeopardy, and a special treat.
The daily schedule is similar to regular weeks, with drop off at 8:35 a.m., and pick up at 3:35 p.m. We will be leaving for our field trips right away each morning so please be sure your child arrives on time.
The cost of this week is $175 per student. The fee covers the cost of transportation, entrance to all museums, and additional programming costs. Lunches will either be obtained through dining at the museums, or SAGE Dining will pack us lunches on picnic days. Students will need to bring sun protection and water bottles each day. If students would like to shop at the museum gift shops, they will be in charge of their own money and purchases.
