5th Grade Welcome Video
Brings TGS Magic to All

TGS teachers know that remote learning is hard. “It simply isn’t the same as being in school with our students,” Kelly Smith, who teaches math 5 and science 6, said. Beyond remote learning, Mrs. Smith and fifth grade teachers Jennifer DeBenedetti and Nina Hernadez understand that the transition to fifth grade at TGS can be hard under typical circumstances— new school, new friends, new teachers, new ways of doing things. It’s a lot to get used to. So these teachers teamed up with a group of faculty and administrators who work regularly with our fifth graders to create the Meet Your Teachers video, which was emailed to all fifth grade students on Sunday, the day before classes started.

The Meet Your Teachers video was an opportunity to make a connection between our fifth graders and The Gregory School teachers and staff who care so much about having them feel the warm, welcoming spirit of our campus,” Mrs. Hernandez said. “We felt it was important to bring that sense of community, that is such a trademark of our school, into the homes of our students.” And this is what makes the fifth grade Meet Your Teachers video so significant and why we are sharing it broadly: it makes what’s special about TGS come alive for us all.

The qualities that make the fifth grade video extraordinary are many of the same qualities that make TGS extraordinary for all members of our community. “I knew that once our students saw the excitement on the faces of their teachers and heard the enthusiasm in their voices, they would know how special each of them are to us,” Mrs. Hernandez said, a sentiment that echos comments from our parents and students at all levels. TGS teachers are enthusiastic, creative, and excited to be here.

“Fifth grade at The Gregory School is a magical experience!” Ms. Smith said. Through their welcome video, these teachers have illustrated for us all the magic of TGS!
