'21-'22 to bring TGS Entrepreneurial Program

 Dear TGS Families:

The first Friday Exploration Days of the year were a smashing success. Teachers reported feeling “electricity in the air” Friday morning as students arrived to school. What a nice way to end April 2021 and what a contrast to this time last year.

Thank you to everyone who has been so prompt and helpful in submitting contracts for the 21-22 academic school year. We are very excited about our enrollment projections. 8th grade has already reached the point where we will begin a waitlist and other middle school grade levels are nearing capacity. Additionally, we have over 20 talented and diverse new students joining us in the 9th grade, with other new students at the 10th and 11th grades. Thank you for your continued good word of mouth that certainly contributes to the interest we’re seeing.

Programmatically, we are very excited about the pilot Entrepreneurial Program that Mr. Dan Young and Mr. Dennis Conner are leading next year. Students applied for consideration, given limited space during the pilot year, and we’re pleased to report that 17 students from the junior and senior class will make up our inaugural cohort. Working hand in hand with a group of successful and supportive alumni, faculty have developed a curriculum that incorporates the steps and processes involved in taking an invention or product (potentially created in our MIT FabLab) to market. In addition to learning marketable skills, students will be incorporating our 6 Cs (Creativity, Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Compassion and Community) in very practical and applicable settings. We look forward to keeping you up to date on our progress and welcome the involvement of any of our own parent entrepreneurs.

Finally, please be sure to read this week’s article regarding tax credits. This resource is incredibly important to the school and makes up nearly a sixth of our annual operating budget. Your assistance in obtaining corporate or individual tax credits for the school cannot be overemphasized. We’re grateful for any support you can provide.

Best wishes for the beautiful weekend ahead that marks the first of May and the final month of school for the Class of ’21. Let’s relish our last four weeks together.

Warm regards,

Julie A. Sherrill, Ph.D.
