Dean of Middle School Students
The MS Dean of Students strives to:
  • Serve as a member of the middle school administrative team and assist with the daily operation of the middle school; focuses include setting a positive MS community tone by developing programs and activities, supporting students, faculty, and families to ensure student academic success and social emotional well-being.

  • Work closely with teachers, advisors, and the school counselor, providing programming and practices that embrace and incorporate the guiding principles of the 6 Cs (critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, compassion, communication, and community).

  • Help to create a culture of care for students, their families, faculty, and staff.
  • Promote student development to enhance The Gregory School student experience.

Student Handbook Reminders

Middle School Phones & Digital Devices

Cell phone use for students in grades 5 – 8 is for safety purposes only. For that reason, students are permitted to have their cell phones out and available for use prior to the start of the school day and after the school day ends. From 8:50 am – 3:30 pm, students may not have their cell phones out (unless they have the express permission from their teacher). This also includes lunch and advisory times.

In addition, students may not take pictures or video unless under supervision by a teacher, or post work or images from school onto their personal social network accounts.

Laptop use in the classroom during class time is at the discretion of the classroom teacher.

Consequences for using a cell phone without permission during the school day are:

  • 1st offense: Your device will be confiscated and kept in the MS office. You may pick it up at the end of the day.
  • 2nd offense: Your device will be confiscated and your parent or guardian will have to pick it up.
  • 3rd offense: You could lose all personal phone/device privileges while on the TGS campus.

Middle School Dress Standards

Students, faculty, and staff at The Gregory School are expected to dress in a way that is reflective of the school’s academic and professional atmosphere. The school expects students, faculty, and staff to maintain a standard of dress and appearance that is appropriate to an academic setting and to The Gregory School mission but also allows for the expression of individual tastes.

For the 2021-2022 school year, school dress standards are:

Appropriate Dress:

  • Clothing must cover the chest, buttocks and midriff
  • Shoes must be worn at all times (may include flip-flops)
  • Ripped clothing must not expose any undergarments

Inappropriate Dress:

  • Sheer, net, or transparent fabrics that expose undergarments
  • Logos or pictures that represent implicit or explicit references to sex, alcohol, drugs, tobacco, weapons, or illegal activity, or hate speech/derogatory language
  • Hats, hoods, and sunglasses worn inside, with exception of religious or cultural regalia

Consequences for dress code violations:

Students will be reminded to dress appropriately to reflect the student’s academic and professional atmosphere. Repeated violations will warrant communication to parents. Blatant disregard of dress code policies will be addressed with Head of School.
