Rebecca “Becky” Vega Thurber, ’94

Rebecca “Becky” Vega Thurber, ’94, and her husband, Dr. Andrew Thurber, and their two-year-old son, Flynn, live in Corvallis, Ore. After four years of telling everyone at St.G that she was going to be a marine biologist, Becky stunned everyone and became a marine biologist with two degrees (molecular/cellular biology and marine biology) from the University of California - Santa Cruz and a Ph.D. in biology from Stanford University. Becky is currently an assistant professor of marine microbiology at Oregon State University, where she studies how human activities such as overfishing, pollution, and climate change influence the roles of bacteria and viruses on ocean health.
