Yes. We have determined that, in the interest of the health and safety of our entire community, we will return to full remote learning between Thanksgiving and the winter break (November 30-December 18).
We will honor the return of the small cohort of learners that were on campus since August on Monday, December 7th. (Therefore, the small cohort will work remotely for the full week after Thanksgiving.) If your child is part of that cohort and you choose not to retain your seat for the last two remaining weeks before winter break, we would be grateful to know that so we can offer in-person assistance to students we believe would benefit from that additional support. In addition, if your child is part of that cohort, please review the quarantine and testing guidelines in the next question.
Aside from encouraging families to use the wide-spread testing available in Pima County should they feel unwell or learn they were exposed to someone who tested positive, we also expect our families to follow these best practices regarding travel:
If you travel outside of Arizona OR to any of these Arizona counties (Apache, Gila, Graham, Greenlee, Yuma), we ask that your family quarantine for 14 days upon your return, beginning with the day you return to Tucson. Should you be interested, if you are feeling well, you can “test out” of quarantine after the 5th day, given that if you were exposed during your travels, the virus should appear by that time in your system. Presenting a negative PCR test dated after the 5th day will allow you/your child to return to campus.
We will survey families in early December about your choice of in-person and remote learning for second semester. We will give you an opportunity to make separate choices for 3rd and 4th quarter rather than a blanket decision for the entire semester, recognizing that factors such as weather and virus curves could well impact your thinking. Once we receive the survey results, we will communicate plans for 3rd quarter by the middle of December.
Yes. The school year will be adjusted accordingly. Spring semester final exams and assessments will end on May 27, 2021. 5th Grade promotion will take place on May 27. Middle School promotion and Commencement 2021 will be held on Friday, May 28. Please refer to our downloadable calendar for more information.
The following are student requirements and expectations for attending every Zoom class:
Faculty Google Classroom standards for 2020-2021 academic year are as follows:
School-wide updates and announcements will be sent to all families by email. Where applicable, these FAQs and our web page will be updated as well and, again where applicable, announcements may appear on The Gregory School Facebook and Instagram pages. However, families should rely on email foremost for initial information.
Information about specific classes will be posted in Google Classroom and, depending on the announcement, will be emailed to families from teachers.
We can waive physicals for all students with the exception of Upper School students who plan to participate in a school sport, because physicals are required by the AIA. However, all students registered at TGS MUST have immunizations up to date.
Generally speaking, visitors will not be permitted on campus, and as much business as possible will be conducted via email and online meetings. Family members and other visitors with school business that must be conducted in person will be required to make an appointment and wear a mask.
We are working to make this determination in collaboration with the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) and with the guidance of the Pima County Health Department and other health experts.
